Shoulder Pain Relief

Repetitive movement patterns are the leading cause of body aches and pain; in some cases, severe pain. Sitting in front of your computer, strenuous exercise, housework causes your neck pain and incredible shoulder muscle strain. This strain can turn into the tension of your muscles, which can become quite painful.

Yoga studios can help you to realign your posture and release the tension you’ve built up in these muscles. Healing instructors have been trained to guide you through exercises that will promote more functional movement patterns to reduce or eliminate your pain. When you join a wellness studio, you will learn about the many different approaches available for shoulder pain, and how to keep it from recurring. These are a few natural treatments you can try at home for shoulder pain relief.

Expanding Your Chest to Relieve Pain in Your Shoulder

A lot of shoulder pain results from your muscles becoming stiff. This stiffness comes from sitting wrong or standing too long. For shoulder pain relief, you can stretch these muscles by using an exercise band, strap, or rope and expand your chest. Place the rope, strap, or band behind your back and hold it with both hands. Raise your chin as you bring your shoulder blades towards one another. Take a deep breath and release for a count of 10 to 15. Repeat this exercise 3 to 5 times.

Twist while Seated

Another movement for shoulder pain relief is to sit straight up in a chair with your knees touching. Move the upper portion of your torso to the left and place your right hand on the outer side of your left thigh. Turn your head to look towards the left and allow your shoulders to relax as you gently push the left thigh. Inhale deeply and hold for a count of 10 to 15 and release. Repeat this exercise with your right arm and perform the exercise 3 to 5 times for each side.

Shoulder Twist – Move Your Shoulder 90-Degrees

Shoulder pain relief can also be found by performing a 90-degree shoulder twist in a doorway. Stand in a doorway with your arms up so that your elbows make a 90-degree angle and your arms are at the same angle from your body. Place your hands on each side of the door frame, and put one foot forward, but keep your neck aligned with your spine. Lean slightly forward and brace yourself against the framework of the door and hold for a count of 20 to 30. Repeat this exercise 2 to 3 times.

Natural Herbs for Shoulder Problems and Shoulder Injuries

There has been some success with using natural herbs for shoulder pain relief:

  • Alfalfa is an herb used for reducing swelling and curing pain. This herb improves blood circulation and reduces inflammation. Placing a few leaves of alfalfa in hot water for about five minutes, straining and drinking one to two cups of this herbal mixture daily may help with shoulder pain relief.
  • Lavender Oil can help to relax tired, achy muscles and relieve pain caused by inflammation. Draw a warm bath and place a few drops of lavender oil to the water. By soaking in this bathwater and making sure your shoulders are under the water for about 30 minutes can aid with shoulder pain relief.
